If your computer is infected with a virus, there are some things you should and should not do.

Avoid running Windows Update!

Running the Windows Update program is like painting over rust. It will simply download the latest version of the patches and windows applications and install them, only to get re-infected.

Don’t download or install any new programs to fix the problem.

Many of the programs out there are actually hoaxes, spyware and even viruses themselves. Also, don’t run any new Anti-Virus applications. Running an anti-virus program could actually trigger virus activity on your computer.

Unplug your computer from the internet.

The longer your computer is connected to the internet, the more damage you can do to your computer and possibly other computers on your network or out on the internet.

Do not insert a flash drive or external drive into your computer.

Plugging in a flash drive to a computer that is infected can simply cause an infection to your flash or other external drive, thus reinfecting your computer after it has been cleaned.

Turn off your computer and bring it in.
